Tuesday Tips For You!
Do you ever hear a good household tip and then forget it before you get to try it out? Happens to me all the time! It seems to me that when I see something odd or unusual, it's easier for me to 'keep' a memory. I guess that explains this photo:
That's right - dish soap and turmeric. This may well be the only photo of dish soap and turmeric on the entire interwebs! I don't plan to search and find out, because I'd be really sad if my photo was not original, and one of 138,942 others.
So, what's the deal with dish soap and turmeric? You'll be happy to know that they are two separate tips, and that you do not need to combine the two. Well....usually.
Tip 1: If you've ever make a homemade soup and the broth color is a bit murky, you can change it from looking like dishwater to a lovely golden broth-y color with just a pinch of turmeric. It won't change the flavor (just use a teeny bit!) but it will make the soup a lot more appealing. Hm...dishwater broth...maybe there is an actual connection!
Tip 2: This might be my all-time favorite tip. I can't believe I didn't think of it earlier, so I could share it with you in the past! I learned it from some lovely soul at Prairie Homemaker. If you have knit clothing - say, a t-shirt - with oily food stains on it, pre-treat the spots with dish soap. Dish soap was designed to clean up food, and it works really, really well - a lot better than laundry pre-treaters that I have tried.
I keep a bottle of dish soap in the laundry and drizzle/massage it into those oily spots (I am a very messy person) and they vanish every time. If you've already put the clothing item in the dryer and set the spot, it may not work, but it does work on those sometimes too. Give it a try, and see if it doesn't make you happy!
And yes, I suppose that if you've been eating some delightful Indian dish full of turmeric and things got a little messy, dish soap and turmeric just might meet again!
