Push, Pull, Drag!

Oh dear...my shoulders are feeling a bit tight!

Photobucket

This 'Oh my, that is awfully heavy to be a chicken tractor' chicken tractor has been out in the field north of the house for...oh...10 months? Something like that. Last season we used it as a remote duck enclosure. We would put them out there during the day a few days a week so they could forage in the grass, and to let their enclosure dry out from all the sloshing of water that ducks are wont to do.

We have also used it as a dog kennel, and it worked really well for that.

I don't think we've ever put chickens in it. Oops.

Once I got the idea to use it as an early spring/late fall greenhouse, and then once Hubby said he thought it would work too, I couldn't get it out of my head that we needed to move it to the garden.

You know, so it can start to warm the soil.

Nevermind that we don't have plastic sheeting to cover it yet...I've a bee in my bonnet, and I really want to get it done!

So last night, after our walk, when it was still warm and before the sun went down, Hubby was kind enough to help me get it to the garden. It took some muscle, some rope, and a small pickup truck, but I am happy to report that it is now in place! And before you get the idea that we just tied it to the hitch and drove off - not so! It is heavy, but I think it's also a bit fragile. Factor in the bumpy-ness of the field, and I was out there pushing, re-aligning, dragging and generally trying to avoid the roughest of rough spots, all to protect my mess creation.

Hubby is a very patient man.

And since I'm fairly certain that you're getting tired of me recycling the same photo of a half-finished 'Oh my, that is awfully heavy to be a chicken tractor' chicken tractor, I will try to get some new photos today.

And then...once I get those photos downloaded and uploaded and coded and copied and pasted, I'll have all sorts of things to share, like the felted slippers I sent my mama, the ones I made for myself and Little Bit, the ones that are almost done for Hubby...our Valentine's Day homemade cheese ravioli...all kinds of wierd interesting things!

I'll get to all that, just as soon as my shoulders loosen up a bit.

Wishing you a glorious day,
-Laura at TenThingsFarm

Thank you, Farmer J! I knew you'd understand, because you're my 'sister in squee', lol. I have to do some homework to figure the best strategy for covering our little greenhouse (greenhut? heehee), so that the covering lasts a long, long time and does the job. I'm eager for some homegrown greens!

What a great idea! My only caution (having purchased a metal framed, plastic tarped, greenhouse last year) is to make SURE that it well anchored. My 10 X 14' greenhouse blew away in a strong wind... :-(

I may be willing to try again with something else though and your idea looks pretty darn good!
Greenhouse what a great idea. Take care of the shoulders.
