Still here, still busy.

Hey, Y'all,

I didn't forget that a I have a blog, but I have to admit that once you get out of the habit of blogging regularly, the days start slipping by rather quickly.

Also, I'm using hubby's laptop of late, because the computer I usually use is made of wood and stone, and won't load the updated versions of various programs that I need to work scoring standardized tests. That gig will be over soon and I'll be back to the cavegirl computer (which I love, by the way). I am hesitant to load photos onto this nicer, newer, much smarter than me computer, but once things are back to normal I will post pictures again too, OK?

I cut the tip of my right index finger. I don't know how. I do know that every time I tap a key on the keyboard, I want to say 'ow'. So, here is the (ow) short (ow) version of what's going on of late:

1. Planted/transplanted - several sweet cherry trees, five potato varieties, three kinds of carrots, a year's supply of onions and a re-do on the beets, some of the peas and some lettuces. Also lovage and some rhubarb. Our tomatoes and peppers, started from seed, look fantastic, and we'll be transplanting them soon.

2. Duck news - Sadly, we lost one of the Rouens. I was more torn up about it than Little Bit, and I still wish we had all six ducklings. The remaining five are healthy, happy and bonded to one another. It appears we have an Ancona drake and hen and a Rouen drake and two hens (yay!). They spend their days out in the chicken tractor where they are protected, yet able to forage for grass and tender shoots.

3. Weather - I think it's a wonky weather year most everywhere. We had snow on the 13th of May, for heaven's sake! Currently it's warm and sunny during the day, but we had storms tonight. There was talk of hail, though we didn't get any (thankfully). The ground has not really warmed up yet - hopefully it will soon. They are predicting an exceptionally heavy hatchout of grasshoppers this year. Oh, goody.

4. Other - I think everything else is pretty well ticking along. The hens are fat and sassy (laying really well too!), Little Bit is growing and learning by leaps and bounds and I see the many ways we are blessed on a daily basis. I do miss blogging and talking with y'all, and I look forward to getting back to that soon.

Ta ta, for now,
-Laura at TenThingsFarm

Hey Dearie! I completely understand about the days slipping away from you ~ the coined phrase around here is the Nebraska Time Warp. You can literally lose hours if you're not careful.

Just keep on keeping on with what's truly important at the homestead. While I miss your writings, it's more important that you tend to your family and needs, you know?

Love, hugs and continued prayers...as always.

I totally understand about blogging passing you by! I do it too. You sound really busy though, with much more important things than blogging. :D I came here from PH, and I love your blog!

Hope your computer will be fix soon.
Your activities look fun. I wonder what the cherry tree looks like? I never see them, though.

Where do you live actually? Looks like you live in a wonderful place. I'm in Asia so I can't predict where it is.

Such a nice blog. I love it.
