I got paid to shop! I saved 101%
I checked my coupon/savings blogs, and made my little list. We have a well stocked pantry right now, so I was going to pick up some things that would be good deals.
At Safeway I was pleasantly surprised to find out that some Post cereals were on the $5 off of 5 deal, because I had a couple of most excellent coupons. Anyway, here are the things we got:
You may have noticed that the pasta boxes are empty - true! I already poured the pasta into glass storage jars, so I just photographed the boxes. This stuff was all down in the basement pantry - that's why the photo is so dark.
Here is a breakdown of how this worked. If you bought 5 participating items, you get $5 off the total. My 5 participating items (and the lowered prices) were:
2 boxes Post Raisin Bran (1.50 each)
2 boxes Quaker Oat Squares (1.00 each)
1 box Nature Valley Granola Bars (1.50)
I also got the two boxes of Barilla pasta, on sale for 88 cents each.
I took all this to self-check, scanned my club card, then scanned the boxes.
The $5 came off - yay!
My coupons:
I had 2 that were $2 off 1 box Post cereal. (50 cents profit each box)
I had 2 that were $1 off 1 box Quaker Oat Squares (free)
I had 1 that was 40 cents off 1 N.V. Granola Bars, doubled to 80 cents (cost 70 cents, but actually paid for with the 'profits' from the Post cereals)
I had 2 that were 55 cents off 1 Barilla Minis, which doubled up to the cost of 88 cents (free)
So I get to the end of all this, and my total is minus 30 cents. I thought I'd have to run get a couple bananas or something, but the self-check station spit out 30 cents and a reciept! I spent zero money, got thirty cents! I saved 101% - WooT!
Here's my receipt:
I am going to do the menu for the upcoming week before I buy anything else. Our pantry is rather abundant right now, we have lots of fresh produce on hand, and I don't want to get things we do not need...unless they want to pay me again!
Happy Shopping!
