Slacker - that's me!

This post is about yesterday. I meant to get it done yesterday, but I was doing stuff, and didn't get to it.

Yesterday, in no particular order, I...

...watered part of the garden, picked the beans, pulled some carrots and helped pick some corn for dinner.

...made hubby's lunch for work, tended the chickens, called the propane company (we FINALLY ran out!) and had them come repair the leak and fill the tank.

...did a big load of laundry and made 4 gallons of laundry soap.

...pulled the kitchen stove out, cleaned behind it and puttered a bit to see if we have a gas leak (sometimes we get a faint whiff of propane - it's not the line coming in or connected to the stove, that much I know).

...took my happy little daughter next door to play and to pet 5 week old kittens. Played with the girls while the other mom got a phone call from her husband who is stationed in Iraq. Helped feed a horse.

...called around about fees to move or demo the mobile home out back.

...cut up/parted out a 22+ pound turkey into more reasonable size pieces for a 3 person family.

...watched an espisode of 'The Waltons' with my daughter.

...bagged up almost all the leftover clothing from our yard sale, and brought the bags inside so we can take them to Goodwill tomorrow. Also brought 7 boxes/crates of books that I'm taking to the used book store for credit/trade.

...wrapped a gift, wrote the card, and packed them up to mail to our nephew for his birthday.

...bathed our daughter, swept the kitchen floor (thrice! and you still can't tell!) and printed out coupons for tomorrow's trip to town.

And a little bit ago, I realized that the clothes were still in the washer, wet. Normally, I get out the drying racks for all the little stuff. Shirts and jeans go in the dryer for the amount of time it takes me to get all the little stuff hung up on the drying racks (5 minutes?). Then I pull them out, hang them on hangers, and they dry wrinkle free in just a little while. But not tonight. Tonight, I'm using my dryer. I'm tired...and I've done enough for one day! So, if that makes me a slacker, well, I'm okay with that. :)

My name is Nicki. I came across your blog through a friends. I saw on your side bar that you have made peach jam this summer. I was wondering if you would be willing to share your recipe with me. Also, I saw that you dried pears. Would you mind sharing any secrets to that with me???? Thanks a bunch!

Toni, I actually felt a little guilty about using the dryer...for a minute! Then, I got over myself, and went to bed! :)

Nicki, I used a product called Pomona's Pectin, so I could use less sugar than usual. You can get it in health food stores or online. I made freezer jams this year, mostly because I was being lazy. The instructions for jams are on the pectin boxes, or you can get the Ball Blue Book - it's a great reference!

As for drying pears, I peeled them, sliced them, dipped them in lemon juice water, and put them on the dehydrator. It was really easy, and they taste great! You might check your local library - there are some great books on dehydrating foods. Some are really easy like pears, others have a few more steps!

Hey Cat! I just wanted to let you know, I found a website that will PAY YOU for your books!!!!! You have to enter in the ISBE to see if you can get cash for them. Follow the instructions, print out a prepaid label, pack the books and send them in. They will send you a check or deposit the $ in PayPal.
