Welcome to The Chicken Project.
Hi, y'all.
Let me just start by saying that this fruit has been growing all spring and summer, right into autumn. I do believe it's ripe now.
(Sometimes, I get impatient, waiting for fruit to ripen.)
It started with yarn. I put out the word that I was looking for unwanted yarn to use 'for charity'. I thought I knew what was going to happen, but my original idea didn't work out.
(Was I disappointed? Yeah, a little.)
Don't get me wrong - I got yarn. Lots and lots (and lots!) of yarn. I still have it, but it's not mine.
(It's for charity, remember?)
When things didn't go the way I thought they would, or should, I started really questioning myself, and questioning God, and trying to set aside all the distractions and noise so I could listen.
(That's hard for me. Is it hard for you?)
I ended up taking a path I never even knew existed, and I've been learning about and studying the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius.
(Yes, I'm still United Methodist..I've just been reading a lot of works by priests and Catholic authors.)
It has changed me. It has changed how I see God, how I relate to God, and how I understand the Bible. Kind of a big deal.
(ahem)
So after much prayer, I think I know the plan. It involves chickens, at least to begin with. Later, it may also involves goats, and possibly cows. Maybe even water. And yarn. And me. And You, if you're so inclined.
(no pressure, though)
Here is the plan. We will make things. They will be offered here at TenThingsFarm for a donation. Once the postage is covered, all the rest will go to...The Chicken Project!
(I'll cover the mailers, tape, etc.)
There is a tab - The Chicken Project - at the top of the blog. You can click it to see what is available. If you want to purchase an item, you'll have to contact me through email(tenthingsfarm@gmail.com) at least for now. I'll do payment through Paypal, and it will have to be some way where we don't end up with fees or percentages disappearing.
(Please extend me some grace as details get hammered out.)
After some prayer and some looking around, it seems like Heifer International is the way to go. They have a good reputation and they have a system in place. The first goal is the Flock of Hope (if you click the link, scroll down for more info). Chickens, ducks or geese, depending on climate and culture. We have chickens here at TenThingsFarm. We've had duck and turkeys, too. I'd like for someone else - someone in need - to have poultry. They are great starter animals that can provide eggs, fertilizer and meat.

The Flock of Hope is $60. My personal goal is for us to get someone, somewhere, chickens - by Christmas.
