Frugal Philanthropy

We don't have spare millions laying around to start foundations and programs....not yet, anyway.  In the mean time, we still think it's important to help out and be involved.  Volunteering it a great way to make a difference on a budget.

Daughter is not old enough to volunteer on her own, so she and I are volunteering together.

This is Happy Cats Haven.

Happy Cats Haven is a no-kill shelter where the cats live in colonies while they are waiting for homes.

VERY excited to visit!  Daughter brought paper to take notes and some cat food she bought with the
'giving' portion of her allowance.  (She used coupons, too - yay!)

We will be going once a month to help out.  I'm working on the volunteer application this week.  We can help by  folding laundry, cleaning, washing feed dishes, litter duty and playing with kitties!!

Woo hoo!

Can I say something here?  These photos are from our first visit to Happy Cats Haven.  The very first thing I noticed was the smell.  The air smells like - AIR.  Not cat, not disinfectant, not litter...just fresh, clean air.  I was impressed by how kind everyone was, how busy people were, and how clean it was.  The cats were calm and, well, happy.  This shelter is well named, I must say.  My little kitten was pretty happy too.

They even have a small shop where you can purchase cat food and supplies, and they offer community events!  Look at this!

You can visit the Happy Cats Haven website to learn more or make a donation - just click on the name!  Who knows, if you live near me, you may just find your new best friend!

We volunteer at church sometimes too, helping out with this and that.  I also have a big (for me) project that I'll be sharing with you soon.  Do you volunteer?  I'd love to hear what opportunities you've found in your world.

Thank you so much for your post about Happy Cats! We try very hard to make sure our cats are comfortable and, well, happy...as well as our visitors. We look forward to working with you!

I make dessert for after the chapel service at the homeless shelter that our church leads once a month. I make a 'vat' of banana pudding.

I also have my ladies that I mentor at the prison release half way house.

Every 5 weeks hubby and I are greeters at the door of the church. It us a great way to meet people.

I encourage everyone to get out there and find a way to volunteer!
super cute that your daughter wore a shirt with a kitty on it to volunteer here, was that on purpose? :)

It was on purpose! She picked out her Aristocats hoodie 'so the kitties will know that I like them', hee hee!
