My Best Furniture Bargain So Far!

I love a bargain.  I love it even more when it matches my existing furniture, my carpeting, and the empty space in the corner of my living room.

Once upon a time, someone donated this chair to Goodwill.  Goodwill priced it forty dollars.   White tag.  That matters later in the story.  It shows no signs of wear, it does not squeak, creak, or smell.  In fact, it seems to be just about brand-new.  Forty dollars is a good price for such a nice chair.

But wait...it gets better.  This was back around Christmas time, and apparently, Goodwill was over-stocked with furniture.  They put a special bright yellow 'Special Sale' tag on this chair so that it was only ten dollars!  Bright yellow is not a standard tag color in the Goodwill color system.  That matters too.

When we saw that this chair was marked ten dollars, we couldn't believe it - partly because we had never seen one of those 'Special Sale' tags before.  I asked one of the managers if the price was correct and she told me that yes, it was.  They just needed to clear out the larger pieces in the store.  All we had to do was take the tags up to the register, pay for the chair and get a 'sold' tag to put on the chair.  We were in our little car, so I had to come back later that evening (in our little truck) to pick up the chair.

Hubby took the tags up front to pay for the chair.  The cashier put in the price, but the register also requires her to put in a tag color.  She asked one of the other cashiers, who told her to put in the color of the original tag - white.  The cashier was uncertain, so she verified that with the manager - the same one we had already asked about the chair.  Yes, put in the ten dollars, and white tag.

There is a rotation of sorts in Goodwill stores here, and those color tags get discounted periodically.  The week we bought this chair, white tags were 75% off.  So this chair cost $2.50, plus sales tax.

I don't think you can even get a Happy Meal for that kind of money anymore.  I do know that I love my new chair, and it fits into our home and our decor perfectly!  It was definitely worth the wait to find this chair for this corner.  Not too big, not too small, and the price was just right!

I got a chair like that off of freecycle. However, mine was in very bad shape so I had it professionally reupholstered and finished. I ended up paying $400! LOL

Wow great find! Love the story. We were at a furniture auction this weekend killing time. Watching that auction made me feel pretty proud of my $75.00 craigslist find!

I love your site and have joined as a follower.

Thanks, everyone! Looks like I'm not the only one who loves a bargain! I like to go to auctions, but boy, they do take some time, and it seems like I always fall in love with something at the opposite end of the building from the auctioneer - so it makes for a long day!
Oh my word! That is an awesome deal! What a blessing!
