The BIG gift this year.

Every year there is some big deal present that all the parents are trying to get hold of...and there are shortages, and fights, and parents who feel terrible because they didn't get the big deal present for their child. (And by January 1, the parents who did get it keep finding it under the bed, tossed in a corner, or otherwise ignored. Oh well.)

I'm not talking about that 'big deal'.

I think I know what the BIG DEAL present will be this year, as far as Little Bit is concerned.

I don't think it will be the pajamas bought at last year's clearance. They are nice, and warm, and she will like them just fine. They have cute polar bears on them, so I know they'll make her smile.

I don't think it will be the puzzle from the thrift store either, although I know she will enjoy the puzzle. Same with the 'Let's Go Fishing' that we found a screaming deal on when she was about a year old and hid under the basement stairs. I think she will like it, and play with it, but there is something better.

Her 'big deal' present - a gorgeous doll house, complete with all sorts of little furniture and people for me to find everywhere and step on with bare feet, will be fun. It's really neat - and even better, it's a hand-me-down from a good friend - but I'm not sure it'll be the BIG HIT.

I would post a picture of the BIG HIT, but Little bit 'reads' my blog, so I'm not going to do that. I don't want to spoil her surprise - I'll just tell you.

Honest to goodness, I think her most favorite, most beloved, most used, used up and loved present will be the roll of scotch tape we got her on sale for 39 cents at Walgreens. This child is into my tape dispenser all the time, and she loves to tape things up, tape things together, make pretend band-aids - if tape is involved in whatever she's doing, she's a happy girl. So, yeah - I'm pretty sure the biggie this year will be a roll of tape.

Thirty nine cents...and I used a register reward, so I didn't really spend 'actual money' on it.

(Don't tell her - we got her THREE!)

Hi, Ten Things and family,

You are exactly right!!! Most kids, especially the very young ones prefer the box to the gift. When you were tiny, we didn't have much money and when you were 18 months old you got a baby doll in a little pink laundry type basket with a flannel "blanket" in it. You immediately undressed the doll and carried the basket around for weeks with "treasures" in it, including the dolls clothes!!

You've given me an idea. Do you think she would like one of those packages of various tapes, colors, prints, etc. Maybe more than one. And other stuff, of course.

By the way, the baby doll you got wasn't the only thing, but it was your favorite (at least the basket was) and it cost a whopping 88 cents at the discount store in Kenosha.

Those were the days.

You know, Mom, I think I actually remember that pink basket, hee hee.

She loves tape, in any form. I was thinking of tossing a roll of masking tape into the stocking too, but I don't want to overload her on joy, you know? tee hee.

I am not familiar with packages of various tapes - colors, prints, etc. I think maybe *I* want one of those! ;)

When my daughter was small she loved to "mail" things so for one of her birthdays she got some envelopes. It was the BIGGEST hit for her. Funny thing was she called them antelopes--to this day we tease her about her obsession with antelopes!

You know, Little Bit loves to mail us stuff too - she's all over the junk mail, taking the envelopes. She uses our mitten boxes (see the post from last Sunday) as mailboxes. I should tuck some envelopes in her stocking too - thanks for the reminder! :)
I agree little kids love the simple things in life.......I am sure she will just love the dolls house...
