Peek a Boo!

The sweet corn is up! The green beans are starting to arch through the soil, and, as it comes with the territory, there are little weeds sprouting everywhere! We are hoeing and mulching to keep them in check.

We have gotten about two inches of rain in the past four days, coupled with cooler weather. It must be near perfect conditions for potatoes because ours seem very, very happy.

It pains me to do it, but I'm pinching blossoms off the strawberries. They are young and small, and we have to do that so the plants will be strong enough to sustain a good crop next year. We may get to leave a few blossoms on the plants late in the season, but for now, I just try not to think about perfect, juicy berries, warm and sweet from sunshine. Sigh.....

If that's not bad enough, we have to do the very same thing for our blueberry bushes! Waaahhh! The honeyberries are much larger plants, so we'll let them fruit if they wish. I'll just have to dream about cherries and peaches for now.
