Christmas Cookies!
Oh, the cookies! We have been busy baking, decorating and sharing cookies with our neighbors and friends.
Since this was a big project, we had to clear the countertops (a little) before we started! Hey, Little Bit, where's your apron?
Are you ready to make cookies?
eep! Time to get started!
This is about having FUN and holding the attention span of a barely-three-year-old. With that in mind, we are using mixes. If that makes me a big cheater, well, okay. I know how to do it from scratch, and I enjoy that sometimes, but today, these are our ingredients.
And...I bet you already know this, but I got all the cookie mixes and the frosting free with sales and double coupons. I got the butterscotch chips for 38 cents after a sale and coupon combo, the pecans (blue jar on the left) are from our co-op, and the extracts...well, we've been using them so long, I don't know how much they were. (We're only using a capful of each!) We have our own hens for eggs, and I caught a $1 a pound sale on butter (and bought a lot for the freezer), so this is a really affordable baking day!
And these are her ingredients!
She's the Vice President in Charge of Sprinkles
First, we run a sink full of hot soapy water and gather all our equipment.
After a few minutes of confusion, I remember that the third cookie sheet is in the freezer, full of banana chunks for future smoothies. Does this happen to you too? Is this why projects always take longer than I thought they would? Good thing we had a nice sink full of hot soapy water!
First, some sugar cookies.
Are you licking the paddle?
No, mama.
Scoop...
...dip...
ooh - pretty!
We did some like this too.
Not eating the sprinkles (ha!)
Sugar cookies with sprinkles.
We also made chocolate chip (with red sugar)...
...and chocolate-chocolate chunk with a little peppermint extract (yummy!)
Finally, we doctored the second sugar cookie mix with maple flavoring, butterscotch chips and pecans.
Alas, it was getting late. We finished baking, cleaned up the mess and went to bed.

The next morning...
mmmm!
We made green ones too. Do you like our cookie boxes? We love them!
We also made some plain sugar cookies with frosting and rainbow sprinks!
Next we packed our cookies into the cookie houses. The sturdier ones are on the bottom, the more delicate (frosted) ones on top, and tissue paper in between.
Cookie Town! (When I said that to Little Bit, she cracked up!)
Finally, we packed up our cookies...
...put on something cute (We agreed that a Cookie Monster hoodie was fitting for delivering cookies! hee hee)...
...then we were off to deliver cookies to friends and neighbors!
It was fun sharing with people we care about, and when we returned home we nibbled on extra cookies!
