Not Shopping Month!
Can you believe it's already July???
I read a book a couple years ago called Not Buying It by Judith Levine. (I didn't buy the book either - I got it from the library!) She and her husband held this experiment where they just didn't buy stuff (with some exceptions, including food) for an entire year. It was interesting, and I guess this month I'm doing a mini version of that. (also with some exceptions) It'll be interesting to see what is left in a few of our budgets at the end of the month. I'll get back to you on that, OK?
I got the closet in the extra room cleared out, and I've cleaned out our cedar chest and a pine cabinet. All our blankets, sheets and pillow cases are sorted and organized, along with all the winter hats, gloves, scarves, etc. I made a pretty good dent in the laundry and cleaning supplies too. They are mostly sorted, but I'm not quite done with that just yet. Items for the yard sale are growing into a pretty good stack! At this time, I have no desire to go to a thrift store or yard sale, unless I'm TAKING them stuff!
I can't really call it clutter, but our pantry is awfully full right now too. Couponing has been a huge help, and I've done a good job getting things we already eat. At this point, I don't have room for more, so this month, I'm not 'power shopping'. My list for tomorrow is milk, fresh carrots, a tomato and broccoli, some sliced turkey for hubby's lunch and a couple of other short 'lifespan' items. No cereal, even if it's a good deal - we have plenty. No more canned tomatoes - I think I have a 1 year supply! No stocking up. I don't have anywhere to put it! Now, let's see if I can stick to that for a month, eh?

I am pondering the ways that this is a trust/spiritual issue too...more on that in a future post! :)
